On my way home yesterday, I was thinking about eating with awareness. There is a store across the street that is selling frozen turkey’s necks! Seeing that made me think about all these years that I was eating without any awareness, I was never thinking that the steak that I was eating was an animal, a living being that was enjoying life. This thought, honestly, never crossed my mind… I know, I know, the level of my awareness was below zero… But that was the case. And then, all of a sudden, I saw a documentary and for the first time in my life I realized what, all of us, the human race, is doing to the animals. How much they suffer because of our need to eat more and more their own flesh. What this meat consumption industry really means. From that day, I was never able to eat meat again. And I am happy (and healthy) with my own decision.
I don’t have any interest on preaching about vegetarianism, I got over this stage long time ago. I am not a better person because I am a vegetarian. But my choice is a conscious one, it feels right to me. It’s not about vegetarianism or veganism, it’s about eating with awareness, listen to your body, be conscious on what you consume. Make your own decision according to your own needs. Be aware that your body is your own sacred tool, feed it with the best!
Sometimes, like yesterday, it feels hard to forgive myself about eating animal flesh and enjoying it without thinking further than the instant pleasure. But overall, I think that the most important step that we should all do is to eat consciously, to choose, according to the circumstances, what we really need to eat. To live according to our principals. To see ourselves in others. In all living beings.
